Did you mean self breed, as in laying eggs that will hatch? No, they are not hermaphroditic. They have two separate sexes, male and female. One of each is necessary or the eggs, even if laid, will not be fertilized, so they won't hatch.

Yes u can, just make the water in ur tank a little shallower and put something hard to lay their eggs of, a box filter can also work if ur water is high enough to touch the filter box.
