Help with my angelfish!!!?

Question: Help with my angelfish!!!?

(Posted by: Kristen G on 2010-07-09 23:16:40)

I have 2 angelfish in a 30 gal. tank with some other small fish...and a bottom feeder. I noticed today, the angelfish were on the bottom, kinda sideways, and not at all active(which they usually aren't that active anyway)... One of the fishes fins are starting to wear away...i dont know if it is from an infection or nipping... I put them both by themselves in a 5 gal tank. I know that this is WAY too small for them to stay in, but I thought that I could treat them and see how they do alone. The tank is VERY aireated and has good filtration, so I thought this might be benificial to them for a few weeks. Does anyone know if this is good or not...and how else could I treat them, or help them...I feel terrible that they are not happy, but I don't have a clue what to do.

It may have been attacking each other. When I first got my Angelfish (2 of them), they did well together for the first couple of months. Then one day I came home and noticed one looked beaten up. Over the next couple of months, they beat the crap out of each other. The smaller of the two was almost killed, but to my surprise, they were pairing off. After the first 2 months they became a pair, they stopped fighting. They will peck each other bit but that's about all. The Angels you have may be doing the same, or fighting over territory. Smaller fish usually never challenge an Angel, so I wouldn't think it would be the smaller fish. It is probably the Angels duking it out. If they are together, there is really no way to avoid this. The only infection that usually wears down fins, is fin rot. Unless, it is also on the other fins, it is probably not fin rot.

Well first off, do those 5 gal. have heaters? if not.. put them back..and how bout you give the tank a 30 % water change.. and the fines starting to wear away could be fin rot , so just incase put some medicine in! better safe then sorry ;P
